LANDMARK UNIVERSITY ACTION PLAN TO MINIMIZE THE USE OF DISPOSABLE ITEMS: SUPPLY CHAIN AND OUTSOURCED SUPPLIERS

LANDMARK UNIVERSITY ACTION PLAN TO MINIMIZE THE USE OF DISPOSABLE ITEMS: SUPPLY CHAIN AND OUTSOURCED SUPPLIERS

Purpose:

This extended policy focuses on the integration of sustainability practices across all parts of Landmark University’s supply chain (Outsourced suppliers, contractors and vendors). Reducing the use of disposable, non-recyclable, or single-use items as it pertains to supplying equipment, stationery, construction materials, and other goods or services to the university.

  1. Policy Scope

This extended policy applies to:

– Goods and services providers (including equipment, stationery, cleaning supplies, etc.)

– Contractors in building and construction projects

– Outsourced vendors and partners

To meet university waste minimization and sustainability goals, these entities are required to eliminate unnecessary disposable items and be environmentally responsible.

  1. Objectives:
  1. To promote sustainable procurement throughout all supply chain activities.
  2. Make sure that in contract and supplier management, all outsourced suppliers and contractors meet environmental best practices.
  3. Decrease the environmental impact of operations by purchasing and transporting single-use and non-recyclable items.
  4. Establish partnerships with suppliers aiming for sustainability and ethical supply.
  5. Key Strategies
    1. Sustainable Procurement Guidelines

– Preference for Sustainable Materials:

All suppliers and contractors must focus on products and services which utilize sustainable, recyclable or biodegradable products. For example:

Products in their packaging should not necessitate a lot of packaging or at least packaging made of recyclable materials should be provided by the equipment suppliers.

Eco-sanitary suppliers should offer economically favourable alternatives, for example, recycled paper and reusable office supplies (fillable pens, staple-less stapler).

– Eco-Friendly Construction Materials:

To encourage sustainable building, construction contractors must use low-emission concrete, recycle steel, or certified sustainable wood. We will reduce our dependence on disposable building materials such as plastic packaging and unreusable forms.

Supplier Training and Education:

In addition, the university will coordinate training sessions and workshops for suppliers to learn about ‘best practices in sustainability and waste reduction’. These sessions will cover topics such as:

  – Minimizing logistics and packaging environmental footprint.

Both sourcing materials responsibly and in a sustainable manner.

  – Practices of circular economy (reuse, recycling, and repurposing).

5. Monitoring and Compliance:

As part of the new program, suppliers and contractors will be asked to submit an annual environmental performance report, including the waste minimization they have undertaken their use of sustainable materials, and compliance with the university policies.

6. Review and Amendments:

The Procurement and Sustainability Committee will review this policy every two years to check that it is in line with the latest practices and trends in sustainability. Based on audit findings, technological advancement and input from suppliers and contractors, amendments are made.
