PREAMBLE: Following a communication from the Management of  Agricultural and Rural Development Training Institute (ARMTI) to  nominate two persons for a free-tuition workshop entitled  “Grantsmanship for Research Officers in Nigeria’s National Agricultural  Research System” slated to hold between 13th and 17th June 2022 at the  institute’s premises, two members of faculty from the College of  Agricultural Sciences in persons of Dr. A. Joseph and Dr. E.T. Alori were  nominated to attend the workshop. 

DETAILS  

∙ The arrival date for the training was on Monday, 13th June, 2022.  The training was declared open on Tuesday, 14th June, 2022 by the  Executive Director of ARMTI, Olufemi Oladunni. Thereafter, the  training activities commenced. 

∙ Twelve (12) modules were covered and these are highlighted below:  

Module 1: Overview of Grantsmanship, Science and Art Grant Writing  Facilitator: Prof. J. O. Okunlola from Federal University of Technology,  Akure 

Module 2: Principles of Effective Writing in the Sciences for Enhancing  Success in Competitive Grant Application  

Facilitator: Dr Toyin Ajibade of University of Ilorin 

Module 3: Research Methodology: Sampling, Data Collection and Analytical  Techniques  

Facilitator: Prof. R.O. Babatunde from University of Ilorin 

Module 4: Developing Research Questions, Justification and Expected  Outcomes 

Facilitator: Prof. R.O. Babatunde from University of Ilorin 

Module 5: Principles of Effective Writing in the Sciences for Enhancing  Success in Competitive Grant Application 

Facilitator: Dr Toyin Ajibade of University of Ilorin

Module 6: Writing Grant Proposal: Scientific Methods of Identifying  Community Needs  

Facilitator: Prof. R.O. Babatunde from University of Ilorin 

Module 7: Grant Proposal Focusing on Evaluation Designs and Theory of  Change

Module 11: Essential Grant Skills and Tips for Successful Grant Application  for Research Development

Module 12: Post-Implementation: Report Writing and Presentation Facilitator: Prof. R.O. Babatunde from University of Ilorin 

∙ The closing session for the training was held on Thursday, 17th June,  2022. ∙ Given the beneficiaries’ remarks, the training was insightful,  informative and educative as it has indeed opened up their minds on  approaches for writing grant-winning proposals, as it was agreed  upon, the two faculty who benefited from the training will organize a  day training for the interested members of faculty and staff of  Landmark.
