LANDMARK UNIVERSITY ACTION PLAN TO REDUCE PLASTIC WASTES ON CAMPUS
Preambles:
Landmark university community has its own water factory that supplies drinking water in plastic water bottles and water sachets to the students in their various hostels, staff and faculty at their quarters. The indiscriminate undisposed plastics materials on campus should be appropriately monitored to reduce plastic pollution on campus. Therefore, the following Action Plan should be followed:
1.There is a need for proper workshops and training for the students, staff and faculty on plastics waste and pollution management.
2.The use of eco-friendly refuse dust bins such as wooden materials that are biodegradable should be encouraged on campus rather than plastic waste bins.
3.Regular campaign on the improper disposal of plastic materials including those from food items from the university cafeteria and drinking water factory on campus.
4.Among students, staff and faculty, there is a need for the University Management to encourage the picking of any plastic waste material and quickly drop it inside wooden waste bins provided on campus.
5.Reward and Award Committee should be set up by the university management to encourage proper campaigns on reduction of plastic wastes on campus. This could be done through incentives and awards to be given to any students, staff and faculty that encourages this action on campus.
6.Plastic Waste Monitoring Committee should be put in place to enforce this on university campus.
7.The university should set up a plastic recycling plant that will be generating Internally Generated Revenue(IGR) from plastic waste materials.
