The meeting started at about 2:25pm with an opening prayer led by Mr 5 Oye Adeniyi. The coordinator, Mr Olanrewaju Ajakaiye welcomed 6 everyone, appreciating all members for their support during the just 7 concluded Webinar organized by the group.
8 Charting the way forward, he informed members that the days of meeting 9 will be Thursdays between 2pm and 3pm for there will be vital issues to 10 discuss every week as spelt out by LUCRID.
11 AGENDA
12 In driving the major goal of SDG 16, which is to promote peaceful and 13 inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for 14 all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels, a 15 number of indicators have been itemized for deliberation. The group 16 deliberated on:
17 UNIVERSITY GOVERNANCE MEASURES
18 Management
19 Suggestions came on how the university can synergize internal and 20 external community engagement through sensitization and 21 awareness of Omu-aran community. Mr Ajakaiye Olanrewaju noted 22 that it is imperative for the university to be friendly with her host
23 community. Mr Oye Adeniyi added that the university should be 24 more pragmatic in community engagement and impact. It is observed 25 that host community perceives Thomas Adewumi University to do 26 better in terms of community impact as compared to Landmark 27 University.
28 Faculty/Staff
29 The question on what makes a world class faculty and staff and how 30 they are motivated to do more was raised. Members opined that if 31 faculty and staff are not well motivated and rewarded, it will be 32 difficult to get them to publicize the University.
33 Students
34 The university could devise better ways of absorbing more students 35 into departments which have lesser subscription. Mr Eyitayo
36 Oyeyipo said a bar could be placed on programmes with surplus 37 subscription such that, having reached that bar (number), others can 38 be fixed into related programmes having lesser subscription. In 39 addition, cut off marks can be reduced for programmes with little 40 subscription to allow entry of more students.
41 Mr Ajakaiye Olanrewaju submitted that there should be a functional 42 mentoring structure for students to address both psychological and 43 mental needs as these influence their academic performance. 44
45 AOB
46 The Coordinator, Mr Olanrewaju Ajakaiye charged members to 47 encourage others to show more commitment in attendance of 48 meetings, making helpful suggestions and joint efforts in execution of 49 subsequent projects. He said a new WhatsApp group has been 50 created and members added, bulk messages are sent via email to 51 members and a link has been shared to join the WhatsApp platform, 52 he however enjoined members present to aid the mobilization efforts 53 which is already in place by bringing new members and encouraging 54 existing members to be committed.
