SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL (SDG) 1: NO POVERTY REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2023

Landmark University, Omu-Aran
Following the inauguration of the Landmark University Sustainable Development groups/champions for the 2022/2023 academic session, the group had its maiden meeting on Friday 9th February 202 at the Landmark International Exhibition Centre (IEC).
In attendance were;

Mr. Daniel Emmanuel (Secretary)
More than senty-eighty (78%) of the population were present.
The meeting commenced with an opening prayer and remark from the team champion in person of Dr. Joseph Madugba, who shared further, stating the purpose of meeting as the need for the group/team to plan and strategize on hosting two webinar (one local and one international) by the Omega Semester of the 2022/2023 academic session.
Also, the group/team to organize a town-gown within the Omu-aran community on financial literacy for the marketers/road transport workers.
He pended that the group will collaborate with other groups/team, units, and directorates in the university for some important programs.
On 1st March, 2023 SDG 1 collaborated with Landmark university Chaplaincy and David Oyedepo Foundation and gave thirty-nine (39) students from low-income parents’ scholarship for the year.
The Student Council in collaboration with SDG1, 2, and 3 through the Students Welfare Office held the 2023 Edition of the Common Wealth Day on 12th May, 2023 with theme; Ten Times Fairer and Fatter. The one-day event was aimed at catering to the well-being and comfort of Landmark University Students on campus by providing them with varieties of meals and free medical check-up contributing to the SDG 1, 2 and 3 (Zero hunger and Good health and wellbeing) goals respectively. An average of 1200 students got fed and received free medical check-up.
SDG1 in collaboration with The Creative Writer’s Forum; a team of passionate writers within Nigeria and other countries, with representation in Landmark University held the maiden Landmark University Writing Contest titled; My Pen Speaks from 5th – 31st May, 2023, with the grand finale and award ceremony held on 1st June 2023 at the University Chapel.
The event borne out of the vision ‘to inspire a generation via the truth of God’s Word’ had a good number of student participation where they engaged in writing of stories, poem, articles and content that blends contemporary settings with ancient infallible truths.
Amidst the forum’s core guides of engagements are spirituality, excellence, accountability, diligence, integrity and collaboration. These being the anchor with which the writing contest was hosted, culminating to a huge success and assurances of lives impacted.
Prizes and Awards
The writing contest was a beautiful and rewarding experience for both the participants and the forum with several prizes given out to the top ten best submissions from each stage, as well as spectacular performance. Selected faculties and individuals from the Student Council were also awarded for their meritorious efforts in making the event an overall success.
Conclusively the three emerging winners are;
1st Position (Overall) – Olanrewaju Adeshewa (300 Level) – N50,000 Naira cash prize, Publishing, and promotion deal to several publishing platforms across Nigeria and about five countries, and an Award of Excellence.
1st Runner-Up: Uwakwe Ihuoma (100 Level) – N30,000 Naira cash price, a Publishing deal, and an Award of Excellence
2nd Runner-Up: Ibejigba Enoch Oluwatobi (400 Level) – N20,000 Naira cash price, Publishing deal, and an Award of Excellence.
Webinar Series
Though, the team could carryout all the schedule activities and programs for 2023, we are hopeful that we will do more in 2024.
