SDG 10 REPORT OF ACTIVITIES FOR 2022/2023 SESSION

SDG 10 REPORT OF ACTIVITIES FOR 2022/2023 SESSION

The first maiden meeting of SDG 10 took place on the 18th of December, 2022 at the IEC Building. The group Champion, Dr. Moses, opened up the discourse and said that SDG 10 is about reducing inequality especially as it focuses mainly on sociodemographic indicators including age, gender, income, ethnicity, disability, etc., and to establish a balance in society. He stressed the need for us to run with the key indicators as it pertains to attaining the goals of SDG 10, by organizing webinars and including relevant resource persons, forming research clusters within the SDG group that will drive assigned indicators and come up with collaborative and publishable findings.

Those in attendance were assigned tasks to be performed before resumption in January. The second meeting was to discuss the tasks assigned and how far we have gone in achieving them. Subsequent meetings were to fine-tune our activities and achieve the goals of SDG 10. In total SDG 10 held a total of 5 meetings during the 2022/2023 session.

Goal targets

  • By 2030, progressively achieve and sustain income growth of the bottom 40 percent of the population at a rate higher than the national average
  • By 2030, empower and promote the social, economic, and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status
  • Ensure equal opportunity and reduce inequalities of outcome, including by eliminating discriminatory laws, policies and practices and promoting appropriate legislation, policies and action in this regard
  • Ensure enhanced representation and voice for developing countries in decision-making in global international economic and financial institutions in order to deliver more effective, credible, accountable and legitimate institutions

Among others.

Activities Carried out

  1. Developed a Questionnaire for students and staff to enable us elicit vital information on those with disability and those who may be in need of help from the community.
  2. Prof. Ogbadoyi worked on anti-discriminatory policies. We later used some sections from the student’s handbook and staff handbook
  3. Liaise with CSIS for students’ record by State, Gender, Geo-Political Zone, Hometown and Scholarship.
  4. Meet with the Matron and Medical Director of Landmark University on how people with disabilities are treated in the center.
  5. Plan a webinar on “Reducing Inequalities in Nigeria’s Judicial System: A Strategic Blueprint”. We were not able to implement this due to time and approval from Management.
  6. Met with the school counselor on how they support underrepresented groups,
provide mentoring, counseling, or peer support programs to support students, staff, and faculty from underrepresented groups.

In conclusion, it has been a successful year, with much yet to be done.
