LMU SDG 14 OUTREACH ON FRESH WATER ECOSYSTEM SENSITIZATION

Landmark University College of Agricultural Sciences under the Animal Science Program (Aquaculture and Fisheries Unit) in conjunction with Landmark University SDG 14 in collaboration with God’s Grace Secondary school, Omu-Aran as part of community outreach to address freshwater ecosystems. The students were taught on water irrigation practices under the following sub-heading: Common types of irrigation systems which include: I. Localized irrigation, ii. Surface irrigation, iii. Drip irrigation, iv. Sprinkler irrigation, v. Central Pivot irrigation and vi. Manual irrigation. Beautiful ideas were shared with the students during the teaching exercise with practical examples from using fish farming wastewater to irrigate vegetables farm.
Students were asked if they have questions at the end of the teaching. Their questions were adequately addressed.
Also, water management/conservation methods were discussed which are not limited to rainwater harvesting, taking short showers, and prevention of wastage of water at home and on the farm when there is no need to use such water at that moment. The community outreach through Secondary education was free which was anchored on SDG 2, SDG 4, SDG 6, SDG 15, and SDG 17 held on the 25th of October, 2023 at God’s Grace Secondary school in Omu-Aran, Kwara State.
