Landmark University Student Council Organizes Inter-College Debate Competitions

The Inter-College Debate Competitions courtesy of the Student Council held on Friday 12th April, 2024. The debate witnessed active participation from various colleges within the University, commencing with an opening prayer and an opening remark by the Chairman, Student Council. The debate which was a British Parliamentary style had in present adjudicators (judges/panelists) ably led by the Deputy, Vice-Chancellor, the Chairman, who read out the rules of the debate, ensuring a fair and structured competition.

The First Round of the debate had the theme: “This house believes that gender equality will never be obtained.” The College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS) supported the motion with College of Engineering (COE) opposing the motion.

The Second Round of the debate had the theme: “This house believes that educating women is a waste of resources.” The College of Pure and Applied Sciences (CPAS) supported the motion while College of Business and Social Science opposed the motion.

The Final Round of the debate had the theme: “This house believes that women are better communicators, therefore they should rule the home.” The College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS) supported the motion while the College of Business and Social Science opposed the motion.

Summarily, the event was a success, promoting critical thinking and constructive dialogue among students from diverse backgrounds having the College of Business and Social Sciences emerging as the winner. Participants demonstrated exceptional skills in argumentation and communication showcasing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and academic excellence within the students’ community.
