  1. Tree Planting Campaign (May, 2023)

To promote conservation and sustainable land use, Landmark University SDG 15 Team organized a community outreach initiative to two secondary schools, Government Christian College and Omu-Aran High School (Latitude: 8.1165997. Longitude: 5.0957948), to educate students on the Significance of Tree Planting in Land Conservation. Twenty cashew seedlings were donated to each school.

  1. Participation in the Global Biodiversity Preservation Project

“Dr. Moji Olanike Kehinde, a member of the Landmark University SDG 15 team, served as a facilitator at an FAO-sponsored workshop on the Global Environment Fertility (GEF-7) Biodiversity Project. The workshop was organized for representatives from State Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) with mandates in forestry, environment, lands, agriculture, women’s affairs, and rural development. Other key participants included representatives from Local Government Councils (LGCs) overseeing protected areas, NGOs/CSOs active in the landscape, universities, research institutes, and private sector stakeholders within the forestry sector from Ogun, Delta, Edo, and Ondo states, Nigeria.”

  1. Farmers Field School 

Landmark University SDG 15 research team, in collaboration with SDGs 1, 2 organized a Farmers Field School to showcase improved farming technologies and techniques, for selected farmers in Omu-Aran community on Monday, 20th February at the University Teaching and Research Farm.

Farmers Field Schools (FFS) a forum which featured sustainable farming system for preservation of biodiversity help farmers to  learn successful farming technologies, techniques, and practical information from agricultural experts, fellow farmers and research organizations that the farmers can use to plan or enhance their own operations. It is a farmers’ driven approach to learning new methods and practices through hands-on activities and on-farm demonstrations.

  1. Secondary School Students Sensitization on World Soil Day

In celebration of the 2023 World Soil Day, titled “Soil and Water: A Source of Life” which held at the University’s International Exhibition Centre (IEC) on Wednesday, 5th December 2023, Some Secondary School students were invited to be sensitized on the theme of the World Soil Day. Talks were given by faculties on the importance, conservation, preservation and sustainable use of soil.

The programme also includes an interactive section of questions and answers as well as a quiz segment with prizes given to outstanding students. Students also had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with exhibited items such as monolith, soil colour chart. Find below slides of the presentation.

  1. Report Of The 46th Lucrid Webinar

In commemoration of the 2023 World Soil Day, SDG 15 in collaboration with SDGs 1,2, 17,  and Landmark University Centre for Research Innovation and Development (LUCRID) held a webinar with the theme, “Soil and Water: A Source of Life” at the University’s International Exhibition Centre (IEC) on Wednesday, 5th Dec 2023, World Soil Day.

The guest speaker Prof. Olufunmilayo Ande in her presentation reiterated the need for sustainable use of soil for biodiversity preservation, highlighting the roles of man that can help or be inimical to her sustainable use.
