REPORT ON THE COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES TOWN-GOWN PROGRAMME ORGANIZED FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN OMU-ARAN COMMUNITY ON FRIDAY 10TH JUNE, 2022

PREAMBLE:  

Following the approval by management as presented in the College of Agricultural  Sciences strategic plan for the 2021/2022 academic session, two secondary schools, Ofe Aran Secondary schools and Obi International secondary were communicated on the  visit and the members of the town-gown team were warmly welcomed by the  management and students of the two schools. The visit was in collaboration which SDG  1, 2 and 4, the theme was “Timeless Agriculture (The Past, Present and Future) “. The  members of the team comprises the following: Dr. O.O. Alabi – Acting Dean, College of  Agricultural Sciences, Dr. A.O. Adekiya – HOD, Agriculture, Dr. O.A. Owolabi – Agric  Extension, Dr. E.I. Olayiwola – Agric Extension, Mr. E.T. Awe – Agric Economics, Mr.  B.M. Falana – Animal Science, Miss. F.O. Okunlola – Crop and Soil Science, The  University Photographer and the driver. The summary report of the visit to each schools  is itemized as follow. 

At OBI International secondary school  

– The programme commenced at Obi international secondary school, with a formal  introduction of the Dean with the school’s principal follow by introduction of the  participant to the pupils (50 pupils). 

– The programme was formally opened with an opening remark from the Dean  College of Agricultural sciences 

– The first facilitator (Dr. Owolabi) spoke on importance of education in the present  time. 

– The main two facilitators (Mr. Awe and Miss. Faith) who spoke on “Timeless  Relevance of Agriculture (The Past, present and Future). 

– Dr. Olayiwola, and Mr. Falana also talked about the importance of agriculture in  our present time and the benefit attached to practicing agriculture. 

– Gifts (Longrich sanitary pad) were distributed to the some of the female pupils  who was able to answer questions after the eye opening presentations. – A group photograph was taken with the school management and students  While gifts was also presented to the school principal and the only students that  indicated that he wants to become a farmer in the future. 

At Ofe-Aran Secondary school  

– The team met with the school management (the principal and the vice principals,  teacher and over 250 students  

– Every one member of the team spoke on the relevance of agriculture and  education today. 

– The programme was concluded with gift (sanitary pad) shared to the female  students who could answer questions related to agriculture. 

– A gift was also presented to the school principal and the best student in  agriculture. 

– Followed by a group photograph with the pupils and the school managements. 

CONCLUSION  

Being one of the foremost mandates of an institution, the College of Agricultural Sciences  was able to fulfil this by touching the lives of the people in the community. We  appreciate the management of Landmark University for the support and privilege, the  rare privilege is not taken for granted.
