32ND LUCRID WEBINAR: LANDMARK REITERATES COMMITMENT TO GRANTSMANSHIP

On Thursday 16th February 2023, the School of Postgraduate Studies in collaboration with Landmark University Centre for Research, Innovative and Discoveries (LUCRID) held the 32nd edition of webinar series focusing on effective grantsmanship and institutional involvement.
In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor Professor Charity Aremu who was represented by the deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Ojediran noted the importance of grants in the institution. She explained that grantsmanship is the way every institution is going while adding that to remain relevant in academia, there is need for Faculty and Students to master the art of effective grantsmanship so as to catch up with the global demands. The Vice-Chancellor advised participants to engage the information garnered from the platform of the 32nd webinar on grantsmanship. She noted further that research and publishing are not completed without grants, “you are required to put in your best, excellence is expected of you for timely completion of your programme”.
In his presentation on the “Art of Effective Grantsmanship and Institutional Involvement”, the facilitator, Professor E. I. Unuabonah of the Redeemers University made it known that grantsmanship is an act that must be learnt and mastered. He noted that a poorly organized proposal will fail, therefore, it must be well spread to capture location and budget. Professor Unuabonah added that the writer must have a field of research, identify his specific area of research and make adequate ‘PREP’, (Position, Rationale, Expectation and Priority). The facilitator revealed that an outstanding grants proposal’s methodology must be well projected which is “Keep it simple, stay within the time frame of the project, be moderate and engage tabular format for better presentation. Professor Unuabonah revealed that the merit content of proposal, organization of proposal, fitness of proposed research to funding agency values and funding agency goals and availability of funds are some of the determinants of funded proposals. He, thereafter, encouraged participants to make writing grants proposal a frequent exercise, noting that the more they practice writing the proposal, the better they become.
Earlier, the Dean School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Babatunde Adebesin in his address intimated on the germaneness of the webinar to enhance the research activities of postgraduate students and faculty. In his speech, he noted that funding is a fundamental indicator of effective research, however, there is a responsibility of the institution.
Giving the prologue of the webinar, Director LUCRID Landmark University, Dr Oluwasogo Dada who expressed his enthusiasm on the 32nd edition of the webinar revealed that the University has started working earnestly in that direction kicking off with the inauguration of a grantsmanship committee. He then enjoined participants to make the most of the webinar as he thanked the facilitator for the acceptance.
