MINUTES OF LANDMARK UNIVERSITY SDG-13 RESEARCH GROUP (CLIMATE 6 ACTION) MEETING HELD ON 18TH MAY, 2022 AT THE INTERNATIONAL 7 EXHIBITION CENTRE

AGENDA

10 1. Opening prayer

11 The meeting started about 10 minutes before 3 p.m. with an opening prayer by Dr. Okocha  12 2. Coordinator’s opening remark

13 As the new Team Lead, Dr. Okocha welcomed everyone to the first meeting of the SDG 13  14 group in the 2021/2022 Session. He also appreciated the past efforts of members, and especially  15 the past Team leads, mentioning names such as Dr. Fakinle and Dr. Adebiyi in absentia.

16 3. Adoption of the agenda

17 Dr. Fakinle moved the motion for the adoption of the agenda and was seconded by Mr. Solaja.  18

19 4. Update on the SDG Research Group 13

20 Dr. Okocha read out the update on SDG 13, documented by the erstwhile secretary, Mrs  21 Abiodun Oluwakemi, and it was circulated to everyone present at the meeting. The update  22 contained activities of the SDG 13 group from the onset till date.

23

24

25 5. Matters arising from the Update

26 While appreciating Mrs Abiodun Oluwakemi for writing the update, the coordinator asked for  27 matters arising from it. In response, Dr. Fakinle said that clusters, formed based on research  28 focus, were saddled with responsibility of publishing their research work. He said if there had  29 been a continuity, the group would have been able to produce some publications. He however  30 expressed a desire for any possibility of reviving the clusters. He also commented on the  31 sensitization of secondary schools on Climate Change as canvassed by one Dr. Oludohun of  32 Mathematics Department, and also wished the idea could be revived. Another very important  33 idea suggested by Mr. Onabote was also largely discussed. The idea had to do with organizing a  34 seminar in collaboration with a contact from Covenant University. On this, Dr. Okocha  35 suggested that we could link it up with a webinar since Webinar was an item on our agenda. Mr.  36 Solaja commented on the data collected on environmental variables, which was submitted to  37 Data in Brief but was rejected on the grounds that the data coverage did not meet the required  38 number of years, which should be at least 35 years. While Mr. Solaja felt disappointed on the  39 outcome, he however suggested that we could collect the data on crop performance from the  40 Teaching and Research Farm for those years and compare with the variability of those weather  41 parameters. Furthermore, Mr. Solaja mentioned a need for a center for Climate Change action  42 which would later serve as a base for organizing webinars and other activities. With the center’s  43 establishment, he stated that it could be funded by external bodies and there would not be a need  44 to depend on the University for funds. Conclusively, members agreed that some of the ideas or  45 plans would have to be revived while some might be jettisoned. It was also agreed upon that Mr.  46 Onabote and Mrs Oludohun would be carried along and invited to our next meeting.

47 6. Nomination of a new secretary / Webinar

48 While a new secretary could not be appointed due to few members in attendance, Dr. Okocha  49 moved on to the issue of Webinar, and suggested a possibility of organizing a webinar to address  50 a topic on Climate change and Agriculture since the University is focused on Agriculture. He  51 went further to discuss SDG 13 Metrics/Indicators sent by LUCRID. He called the attention of  52 members to the Metrics/ Indicators which he said would serve as a guide to our operations as an  53 SDG Research group.

55

7. Any Other Business

Dr. Fakinle said the coordinator should follow the trends by the Landmark University  58 Management, especially as they are directing their attention on webinars. While organizing  59 Webinars was seen as a welcome idea and a short term plan, members agreed that long-term  60 plans should also be focused on. Dr. Okocha said, Dr. Adebiyi tendered an apology for his  61 inability to attend our meeting but also shared an idea on Tree Planting in secondary schools.  62 While this was unanimously welcomed, it was emphasized that the planting should start from  63 Landmark before going to secondary schools.

The coordinator asked how frequently should our meetings hold? In response, Dr. Fakinle said  65 we could meet every week via Zoom. Engr. Olaseinde also buttressed on it, that it is doable  66 instead of meeting weekly to prevent clashing with other SDGs but it was eventually agreed we  meet physically every fortnight.

8. Closing remark /Adjournment / Closing prayer

The coordinator gave a closing remark, appreciating every member in attendance. The motion  70 for adjournment was moved by Engr. Olaseinde and seconded by Engr. Abioye. The closing  71 prayer was rendered by Engr. Olaeinde.

Date of next meeting: Wednesday, 1st June, 2022
